Blue Cross Blue Shield (Blue KC) has some great health and wellness articles as well as many classes/webinars during the month of March.  Please see the information below for details.

Nutrition - The ABC's of Healthy Eats

All below mentioned webinars are free of charge for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City members.  Non-members are allowed to participate in the webinars, but there are non-member fees associated with some of them.   One time presentations are free of charge for everyone . Each webinar online description indicates whether or not there is an additional participant fee for non-members that participate.

The following are series webinars.  If you are unable to view the "live" session, you can view the recording-it will be emailed to you within 24 hours of the live presentation:
Tobacco Free and Healthy:  Tuesdays, March 6th-April 10th from 11 am to Noon. 
Forget the shame and fear based approach to quitting. This program will empower you with the skills  and support necessary to quit and stay quit. The first week is designed to help with preparation to quit.  The second week focuses on quitting and the remaining sessions are designed to support staying tobacco-free on a day to day basis, while also preventing relapse.  We will also address concerns related to weight gain and managing stress. Join us for this great class!

Nutri-Wise:  Wednesdays, March 7th-April 25th from Noon to 1 pm. 
This program is designed to provide participants a firm foundation of nutritional knowledge, practical strategies to improve food choices and motivation to reach weekly goals and continue healthy eating habits.  Facilitated by a registered dietitian.
The following webinars are available for viewing 24 hours a day; 7 days a week, all month long :

Know Your Numbers
Blood pressure, cholesterol, lipids, glucose, BMI... the numbers go on and on! But what do they mean? Participants will learn what their numbers mean and what they can do to improve their numbers, and when these numbers indicate it's time to see a healthcare professional.

Thinking About Quitting
Participants will learn they have a choice and smoking is a habit that can be broken. The instructor will discuss barriers to quitting, local resources for quitting, and review the latest in tobacco-cessation aids.

Pre-Diabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but have not yet met the levels for a formal diabetes diagnosis.  More than 20 million Americans currently have this silent condition.  In this class we will address diet, physical activity, and lifestyle behaviors that can help prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 Diabetes.
Managing Asthma and Allergies by Reducing Environmental Triggers
About 1 in 5 people suffer from allergies. This class is designed to help participants understand the causes of allergic reactions, learn about potential hazards inside and outside the home and ways to reduce exposure to these hazards.

Plan Your Plate, Choose Your Fate!
Meal planning, reading food labels and choosing healthy foods can often seem like more trouble than it’s worth.  As it turns out, these habits can actually save money and decrease stress levels.  This class will give you the tools you need to incorporate the right types and amounts of foods into meals for you and your family.
